Scott Laidlaw

Location: Co. Down
Main areas of volunteer work:

Helpline / Outreach / Technical

Scott joined Rural Support as a volunteer in 2014.  He has spent more than 40 years in agricultural research and specialist advisory and has gained some practical knowledge in the technical aspects of farming, in particular on grassland production.  Scott was in direct contact with farmers throughout his career as he had to conduct surveys and interviews regarding agri-environment schemes and also on soil compaction in their grassland.  This provided him with an understanding of some of the issues facing farmers and in particular in relation to environmental issues on the farm.  Scott was also an university lecturer and was an adviser of studies and helped to mentor students.

Scott enjoys the training provided by Rural Support and finds the interaction between volunteers, mentors and staff to be highly beneficial.
